One can safely assume that word of mouth served a useful purpose for boy-band The Wanted on Friday afternoon.
Indeed, hundreds of delirious fans crammed into the HMV flagship store on London’s Oxford Street to get a glimpse of their idols after they dropped in to sign copies of their new album.
The lads were in high spirits as they took to a specially erected stage on the sprawling store’s ground floor ahead of a busy signing session
Anyone hoping to make their way upstairs to the DVD and electronics departments had to fight their way through throngs of adoring young girls before reaching the escalator that would guide them away from the general pandemonium.
Many of those in attendance had their smart phones at the ready in the hope of stealing a few shots as they waited in line for their turn to meet, greet and hopefully grab a cheeky kiss from the five-piece.
While the signings went off without a hitch, a handful of female fans appeared to lose their composure as soon as they got within touching distance of the band.
One in particular was spotted attempting to fight back tears as the winding line of fans pushed her closer and closer towards them.
The Wanted dropped Word Of Mouth, their third album, on Monday – but while fans have been snapping it up over the ensuing five days its release has been met with generally mixed reviews.
Despite a lukewarm critical reception the album’s three singles to date, Walks Like Rihanna, We Own The Night and current hit Show Me Love (America) have been well receive, climbing to numbers 4, 10 and 8 respectively on the UK Top 40.
