He was told he might lose his voice if he didn't
have an urgent operation on his hemorrhaging vocal chord.
But following a successful surgery, The Wanted
singer Nathan Sykes is getting his life back on track, although he admitted
that the recovery process can sometime be a struggle.
Speaking to Lisa Snowdon and Dave Berry on
London's Capital FM on Wednesday morning, Nathan said: 'It's been quite a tough
last couple of months I started struggling when we were filming the TV show and
we were recording a bit of the album as well, and it just got worse and worse
really and then we did a gig in the Bahamas and my Doc gave me a ring and he
just said we literally have to operate now or its going to get so much worse so
I flew back to LA and I was operated on the next day to remove a hemorrhaging
nodule.
He added: 'It wasn't pleasant but the operation
went as good as it could have apparently and I've just been resting and
focusing on tying to get better.'
But now Nathan is putting his all into his
recovery in a bid to be well enough to perform at the radio station's
Summertime Ball this Sunday.
Asked if he would be taking to the stage with
his bandmates, who will be opening the concert at Wembley Stadium, Nathan
replied: 'I'd love to be there, we've been lucky enough to perform at every
Summer Time Ball so far so I'd be gutted to miss it but I've got to take each
day as it comes
'I've had good days and bad days, days when I've
tried singing and its been back to what it was and then had days when its been
like I'm going backwards again but I'm having speech therapy and vocal coaching
to try and get the strength back.'
Nathan's potential appearance at the event rests
on the decision of his doctor, who he will be seeing later this week.
The 20-year-old star added that his fellow
Wanted singers have been incredibly supportive during the surgery and recovery
process, revealing: 'They came in to the hospital but they've been so busy,
they've been out - obviously - in America, they've been to Australia and Japan
as well so its tough seeing them go around the world and going to all these
amazing places seeing all these fans we've never met before, but obviously the
Wanted has to go on.
'While I'm here can I just say a massive thank
you to all the fans, they've been incredible, literally kept me going through
it.'
