After enjoying years of success "across the pond", The
Wanted hit the United States music scene with a bang back in 2012 with the
release of their hit single 'Glad You Came'. Ever since, fans have been going
crazy for the 5-piece UK outfit and the groups popularity continues to grow
with each passing day.
However, the group couldn't have possibly imagined that their
first US release, 'Glad You Came', would go onto sell 3 million copies and pave
the way for the groups first Live on Letterman webcast - among other enormous
gigs that included an intimate performance at The Beacon Theatre in NYC.
The Wanted have also just released their highly anticipated third
studio LP, "Word Of Mouth". The band had spent the better part of two
years recording the album, perfecting every detail in the studio with a myriad
of producers that included Antonyo Smith, Steve Mac, Dr. Luke, Cirkut,
Electric, Ki Fitzgerald, Chris Young, Gary Clark, Fraser T Smith, Harry
Sommerdahl and DEEKAY.
On the amount of time that the album took to complete, band member
Tom Parker recalled "It's taken us two years to make this album and now
that it's finally finished we are all really proud of the time and effort, not
just that we put in to it but all the writers and the label too. We think it's
our strongest album to date. We can't wait for our fans to hear it. They've
been really patient but hopefully they'll think it's worth the
wait!"
In the pre-show interview, the band talked on a number of things
including the influence of The Beatles, working with Ryan Seacrest, and more.
The group also elaborated on the albums sound, saying that part of the reason
the record took so long to complete was that they were seeking the right mix of
sound that would impact and appeal to all age groups.
After their Q&A session, the group was poised and ready to hit
the historic Ed Sullivan Theatre stage. Fans quickly filed in, the lights went
out, and the band stormed into the theatre, greeted with screaming fans, tears,
and everything in between.
The Wanted opened up the show with their smash hit "All Time
Low", off their 2010 self-titled debut LP - much to fans delight. After a
quick hello, the 5-piece then brought it back to the Battleground days, hitting
right into the "Lightning'; which completely electrified the crowd and set
quite a tone for the rest of the evening.
The band also played a number of new songs off "Word Of
Mouth" including 'I Found You', 'We Own The Night', 'Show Me Love
(America)' and 'Walks like Rihanna' before revising older hits like 'Warzone',
Heart Vacancy and 'Gold Forever'.
Arguably the most memorable moment of the evening was the groups
impeccable performance of the shows closer, 'Glad You Came' - originally off
2011's "Battleground". Fans sang along to every word, hung on every
moment, and most importantly were witness to a once in a lifetime pop
extravaganza in the house The Beatles built!
