The Wanted to rock out at Celebrate TV50 countdown party
The Wanted will welcome the New Year together as a band away from home for the first time in four years, at the Celebrate TV50 countdown party which will be held in Singapore on Tuesday.
While The Wanted’s James McGuiness said with tongue firmly in cheek that the band members usually welcome the New Year with their families - because their families "only know us now with Photoshop and through a lens, or in slow motion (in their music videos)” - this year, the quintet will be welcoming the New Year with revellers in Singapore instead.
“It’s a kind of a new thing for us, and the people in Singapore are very welcoming, and they’ve always been very nice to us.
“We got an amazing welcome at the airport, so we’re going to hopefully give a really good and fun concert,” said The Wanted’s Thomas Parker at a media conference in Singapore on Monday.
“We had some wild times [in Singapore], and we wanted to come back,” added McGuiness.
The band had also recently tweeted they have some “big news” to share in the coming year, but absolutely refused to divulge any information about what it could be, even when quizzed about it by reporters at the media conference.
“We’re going to save it for the new year. It’s really exciting, if I do say so myself,” said The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes with a grin.
As for recent rumours that they are being dropped by their music label Universal Music, a representative from the music label said on the sidelines of the media conference that the band is “still with us”, pointing out that the rumours of them being dropped by the label “are just rumours”.
